Tajik

Scripts

This language uses the Arabic, Cyrillic, and Latin scripts.

Arabic is the original script for Tajik. When the Soviet government first took control, they forced Tajik to the Latin script. In 1940, the Soviets made Cyrillic the official script. The Tajik government restored Latin as the script. There has been some government movement to restore Arabic as the official script.
